Hall of Fame Racer to
Highlight 2009 Event!
More details continue to be announced for the 2009 International
Vintage Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet, along with a slate of
tremendous guest speakers and clinicians. This year's event, the
6th annual, will be held August 14-16 at the Outagamie County
fairgrounds in Seymour, Wisconsin. Gates open to the public at
10AM on Friday and close after the races at approximately 10:30
PM. Saturday hours run 8AM-8PM, and Sunday is 8AM-2 PM.
Admission for adults is $7 for general admission, with children
under age 12 free with a paid adult.
One of the highlights of the 2009 event will be the
appearance of the legendary T.C. Christensen, who resides in
Kenosha, Wisconsin and is the proprietor of Sunset Motors. He
will be meeting and greeting patrons throughout the weekend and
will speak about his experiences as a world-renown racer. His
famed "Hogslayer" motorcycle will also be in attendance, so
bring your cameras!
The Hogslayer-T.C. Christensen
During the 1950's in Kenosha, Wisconsin, T.C.
Christensen was riding and racing a different type of bike than
the norm. Drawn to the sportiness of British motorcycles,
Christensen rode a BSA, which he thought was the fastest bike in
town. By wrenching at a BSA garage and racing in his spare time,
most of Christensen's pursuits were dedicated to speed.
In the early fall of 1962, he laid eyes on what he
would later call the "Blue Behemoth," a Norton 650 that would
change his life. A one-armed man who owned the bike was paying
someone to race his bike. The "Blue Behemoth" turned out to be
shockingly fast, during a street race, it blew past
Christensen's buddy's BSA. Christensen was smitten with the
bike's speed---he had to have one!
Just a few weeks after that race, that very Norton
650 would enter Christensen's life through a strange twist of
fate. When leaving a party the owner of the bike accelerated to
about 90 mph and was cut off by a car. Killed on impact,
Christensen ended up buying the wreckage, hoping to build a
dedicated race bike. Incorporating a Triumph rigid frame, he
implanted the Norton engine, adding a full fairing and a large
rear wheel.
He took the bike to Union Road drag strip and the
Great Lakes Dragaway, where he competed in his first legitimate
races and won in the top gas category-with what was essentially
a street bike. He moved into nitro fuel in 1963 and fully
dedicated himself to racing in 1969. At Bowling Green, Kentucky
he would annihilate the competition and set several records.
He and his team built their first double engine "Hogslayer"
in 1970 after being deeply impressed by Borris Murray's
double-engine Triumph. "Hogslayer 1" became one of the first
drag bikes to incorporate fuel injection because carburetors
could not deliver enough fuel to the engines to make them
competitive. In 1970, the "Hogslayer 1" became the first bike to
exceed 180 miles per hour in the quarter-mile. Always staying a
step ahead of the competition, Christensen and his crew would
always counter with innovations that were simple and inventive.
Over the years they built a "Hogslayer 2" and by 1970 the "Hogslayer
3" would pull the quarter-mile in the mid-7 seconds.
During a warm-up run in Columbus, Ohio, the steering
stops snapped off and forced him to bail off the motorcycle,
sliding across the tarmac and registering a speed of 150 mph. He
escaped with relatively minor injuries.
In 1977, after nearly a decade of dominating the
drag strip without factory support, the "Hogslayer" retired from
competition. That was also the same year Norton went out of
business. T.C. Christensen was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall
of Fame in 2005 and the final iteration of the "Hogslayer" is on
display at the British National Motorcycle Museum.
Additional guest speakers have also been announced as follows:
-
Pete Dujanovich-Blasting Seminar
No...Pete does not plan to blow up the IVMS grounds, but he
does plan to talk about and demonstrate various ways of
blasting your vintage motorcycle parts down to clean metal
in preparation for painting, polishing, or restoration. A
noted motorcycle mechanic who also has worked with aircraft
engines and other large machinery, his expertise should help
those who are working on or planning to restore a vintage
motorcycle.
-
Johnny Bova-Kawasaki Tech
Johnny is the proprietor of Johnny's Vintage Motorcycle
Company in Wadsworth, Ohio and an avid VJEMC supporter. His
expertise in the Kawasaki field is second to none. Yet to be
finalized is his appearance and discussion on Kawasaki tech.
-
Bill Kasten-Yamaha Tech
Bill was the long-time owner of the Yamaha dealer in Wausau
and has worked for his son at SK Service in Hatley for the
last 25 years. He has offered to help show attendees who
have questions about their Yamahas, Yamaha restoration, and
other tech questions to keep their vintage "Yamis" running
smoothly.
-
Terry Meetz-Custom Plating Specialist-The Chroming Process
Terry has spent his career at CPS doing chroming work for
many industries, with many VJEMC members and other
motorcycling enthusiasts now turning to him for their
restoration chroming. Terry will give you information on how
the process takes place, bring samples of his work, and
answer questions about costs, procedures, and more. Several
bikes with his chrome work will also be on display at the
IVMS!
-
Dana Cudnohusky-WFO Custom Painting Seminar
Dana
creates some of the nicest motorcycle paintwork in the
region, and now, his work is becoming known both nationally
and internationally. In his seminar, Dana will speak about
prepping your items for paint, different options for
painting, colors, pin striping, and the general painting
process. His intent is to have this as an informal session
where questions are encouraged. He will bring samples of his
work to help explain the processes used, as well as giving
you a "start-to-finish" overview. Dana hails from Marinette,
Wisconsin, and has been in the painting and auto body
business since his high school days, and has always had an
interest in vintage motorcycles. He also does custom
painting.
-
John DeBeck-VJEMC Motorcycle Grading and Evaluation Seminar
When
VJEMC staffers go out to major shows and auctions, we see
many motorcycles that are evaluated or graded incorrectly.
Our goal is to help members and non-members know what to
look for when buying a vintage bike. Don't get "taken for a
ride" and learn how to accurate put a value on any
motorcycle. John will give you tips and tricks of what to
look for before writing your check! Learn about obtaining
titles for untitled vehicles. When is a bike a good choice
for a restoration, and when should you pass on it? All of
these topics and more will be discussed in this session,
which will encourage audience questions and participation. A
used motorcycle will be at the seminar to use as a basis for
discussion, and an audience member who has a bike available
at the IVMS may also be able to bring their bike into the
seminar for evaluation.
-
Spence Industries and John Eng-The Powder Coating Process
If you are doing a restoration, many people often choose to
send their frames and even other smaller parts out for a
powder coating job. And you are not limited just to the
color of black! Spence Industries is one of the leading
powder coaters in the eastern Wisconsin area and has
performed this process many times for members of the VJEMC
and the Motorcycle and Model Railroad Museum. VJEMC member
John Eng will discuss the process used to do powder coating
and the types of products used. He will also bring samples
of work, and discuss prepping items for a powder coating
job.
Bike Corral:
The
bike corral will be right at the entrance of the show again
this year. Any age motorcycle may be put into the corral for
sale. The motorcycle MUST BE RUNNING! The cost is $6 per bike
preregistered, or $10 at the gate. Enter at GATE 2 to put a bike
in the corral. Additional spectator fees will also be charged.
Charity Ride:
The
Christian Motorcyclists Association will be hosting the annual
event Charity Ride at 1 PM on Saturday, August 15. The ride will
go 75-100 miles with 2 stops. Register for the ride by entering
with your motorcycle at GATE 2 up until ride time, or before the
ride by stopping at the Christian Motorcyclist’s booth in the
vendor area. A donation of $10 per rider is charged, or $15 if
riding two-up. All riders will receive a free meal upon return
to the IVMS show grounds! All makes and models of motorcycles
are welcome on the ride, with an emphasis on bikes 15 years old
and older!
Concessions:
A
huge line of concessions will be available, which will be served
by the Green Bay area ISRA Motorcycle Club Chapter. Brats,
hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, soda, chips, water, breakfast items,
nachos, and more will be available throughout the weekend at
reasonable prices so as to make this an affordable event for
families. Proceeds from concessions help ISRA offset the costs
of their charitable works for youth during the year.
Admission:
Admission is a low $7 per day for adults, or get a weekend pass
for $18. Children under 12 are free with a paid adult, again
keeping with the family-friendly theme. All patrons will be
given an appropriate wristband which MUST BE WORN to get into
the show. Torn wristbands WILL NOT BE HONORED! These must be
visible and on your wrist! They are waterproof and can be used
from day to day if purchasing the weekend pass. Admission to
racing is a separate cost, as this is a separate event, similar
to special shows at the fair.
Vendor Check-In
All
vendors MUST CHECK IN AT GATE 3 on Eagle Street. NO
EXCEPTIONS!!! Please display your vendor pass that you will
receive in the mail on your rear view mirror to get in quickly.
Vendors desiring a spot who have not paid in advance will need
to pull off to the side at the gate to pay and register. It is
STRONGLY ENCOURAGED that you register in advance this year and
avoid long lines and guarantee your space!
Camping:
All
campers and RV’s going to the camping area should check in at
GATE 2 ONLY!! If you are a vendor with a camper who plans to
stay in the camping area, drop your vendor items after checking
in at GATE 3 and then proceed to GATE 2. Camping spaces are $30
for the weekend. There is a $5 discount for VJEMC members.
Camping spaces are assigned as campers arrive. Pre-registration
guarantees you a spot. Water and electric hook-ups are
available, but you should bring your own hoses and power cords.
Make sure you have enough footage, in case you are further away
from the main hook-ups! Vendors may, at their discretion, stay
with their campers in their vending sites, as long as they
purchase enough space to accommodate their campers/tents.
Auto Parking
Auto
parking will be through GATE 2 ONLY! Enter off Wisconsin Highway
55. There is no charge for parking for cars. Simply pay your
individual admission when you enter!
Vintage Biker Babes

2009 Vintage Biker Babes Calendar at the International Vintage
Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet.

Raffles and Door
Prizes
Every year, the IVMS gives away hundreds of door and raffle
prizes. These include motorcycling gear, products for your
motorcycle, tee shirts, caps, sweatshirts, signs and banners,
restaurant gift certificates, products donated by show vendors,
and much, much more! The grand prize for each of the last 5
years has been a trip to Las Vegas with free motorcycle rental!
Free Club Display
Spaces
Motorcycle clubs (especially those which are vintage in nature)
are welcome to attend the IVMS and bring a display of vintage
motorcycles for their area. There is no cost for these spaces,
but you can not sell motorcycles, parts, or memorabilia in these
spaces. Club memberships and club tee-shirts may be sold, and
literature may be given away on your club's good works. Clubs
which focus on modern motorcycles may also take these spaces,
but must display motorcycles 15 years old and older that may
belong to members, in addition to promoting their "newer" club.

YOU CAN BE A PART OF
OUR 2011 “VINTAGE BIKER BABES” CALENDAR !
|
|

An
ongoing VJEMC promotion ( tastefully
done ! )
The VJEMC board has had ongoing
discussions about again producing a
calendar for members that can also be
sold at our events to raise funds for
the club. At the 2008 IVMS, we had a
photographer shoot photos for the 2010
calendar. This calendar will be produced
and ready for our event booths and the
general membership during the spring of
2009. To this extent, we are putting
some plans in motion to help garner
photos for our next calendar (2011) at
the International Vintage Motorcycle
Show and Swap Meet in Seymour, Wisconsin
on August 14-16, 2009. If you would like
your favorite bike or your favorite
woman in the calendar (or if you are a
woman who would like to be photographed
with a bike and possibly be included in
our calendar), here is what we are
planning:
-
Vintage motorcycles 1994 and older
are eligible for the photo shoot.
The bikes should be washed, clean,
and in condition 1, 2, or 3. No rat
bikes, dirty bikes, radical customs,
etc….We basically want nice stock
bikes. The photographers have the
right to select or deny a bike based
on condition or multiple bikes of
the same kind/marque.
-
Bikes must be entered in the IVMS
show to qualify, so we know you are
serious about having your bike
included and will have it present
when promised.
-
Unlike what many of you may be
thinking, our “vintage biker babes”
calendar is not going to be an
exercise in exposure. We are looking
for women who are tastefully dressed
in biker clothing, be it leathers,
jackets, jeans, boots, vintage tee
shirts, caps, etc….As a matter of
fact, dressing in vintage biker
clothing is a plus! We hope to
feature women of all ages who are
interested in motorcycling. Again,
the photographer has the final say
as far as who he/she shoots, but
will try to have a variety of women
from children to "retirement age"
women
-
These women will be “delicately”
placed on or next to the motorcycle
photographed for the calendar. Of
course, we are looking for a variety
of brands. We prefer not to repeat a
marque more than once in the
calendar, so if you have a nice
Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki,
Triumph, BSA, Norton, AJS, Vincent,
Bridgestone, etc……bring it out and
have it featured!!!
-
We will be advertising the event
throughout Friday and early Saturday
over the public address system on
the grounds as well. The women who
are chosen, as well as the owners of
the bikes who are chosen, will
receive free copies of the calendar
for their personal use when it is
produced.
-
The photo shoot will be taking place
on Saturday afternoon, August 15, so
plan to be available for a few hours
between noon and 4 PM.
-
Any questions about the shoot should
be directed to our office at
877-853-6210
Please contact us toll-free with any
questions at 877-853-6210,
or feel free to join us by filling out a
membership application today!
