Solo seat for 78 Honda CB550 any good fits?

Hi, I'm trying to fit a solo racing seat(bum stop) type. on my 78 CB550K. I'll hack up a generic fiberglass one if I have to but I'm really interested in fabing up a bolt on seat GB500 solo? maybe... /any ideas? or leads in finding a seat to fit this bike? I've gone to a few glass sites / british sites but am finding it tougher than I thought Help!!! thanks, Kfitz

Trying to picture what you want to do....could you modify the frame under the seat somehow to add a cross brace upon which you could attach the smaller seat.....I can see where you would want to use something like the GB seat.

Just trying to ponder...!

Hi John, Thanks for the thought. Yes I can weld a plate across the frame(I didn't want to remove the air filter box etc.) but it looks like I 'll have to I fiddled around a little and think I can also put the stock/550F sport seat back on and rig a bolt down for a race seat......Its just that I was really hoping the GB500 seat was the hot lash up! it still might be but I think they're as rare as hens teeth.... unless of course some member has one kicking around!!!!! or knows where one is for sale... nothing on EBay and David Silver Spares and most part houses are a bit too steep for my budget....anyway thanks for your thoughts. kfitz

Might try the salvage route.....or maybe Western Hills Honda in Cincinnati (ask for Terry Williams).

There are some good seat restorers out there if you have a crappy one that could be redone, too.

I saw a guy at a swap meet some where here in Wi. that made fiberglass seats and tanks for just what you're doing. I don't remember who he is, or where he's located. He had several different styles to choose from. I may have seen him at last years show in Iola, Wi.
