It's been over 20 years since I've owned a motorcycle. I
decided to start riding again since fuel prices are getting out
of hand. I wanted a low maintenance, high reliability
commuter/touring bike that fit in my budget. This was the first
bike I found, a 1980 GS850GT. I was impressed. It started
right up, cold, and was ready to ride. I was in great shape.
But I told myself I wasn't going to buy the first thing I saw.
Then, the more I looked at other bikes, the more I realized this
was the bike for me. It had 13,800 miles when I bought it in
March of
'07 from the second owner. I'm planning small upgrades like
suspension and brake lines, but otherwise will keep it entirely
stock. This is the original burgundy (some say maroon) color
and it came with a full set of Samsonite hard bags. The PO lost
the side mounts but I can still use any of the three bags for a
trunk. The previous owner installed a new Slipstreamer
windshield just before he sold it. I thought I would take it
off, but it makes for a more comfortable ride. I'll probably
remove it when the weather gets really hot. I love these older
bikes and "Jessie", as I call her, should be around for many,
many years.
Thank you,
Cliff Saunders
